Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir was founded in the dark days of 1943 by William Wilde, the Organist & Choirmaster at St Nicholas Parish Church Newport (England), in the rural county of Shropshire which lies close to the borders of mid- Wales and some 40 miles north west of Birmingham.
We have enjoyed much competitive success over the years and have won many competitions. Our greatest competitive achievement was coming second at the highly prestigious Llangollen International Festival. The Choir has won the English National Championship on two occasions 1972 and 1978
The Choir now concentrates on concert performances, and in a normal year gives several charity concerts in local churches and halls. Many thousands of pounds have been raised for worthy causes.
The Choir usually has 45 members with a professional Director of Music and Accompanist.
