Last Saturday members of the Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir joined forces with members of six other West Midlands male voice choirs to form a massed choir of around 200 voices, for the English Association of Male Voice Choirs Annual Charity Concert. This year’s event was held at The Place, Oakengates, Telford, and was organised by Hadley & District Orpheus Male Voice Choir. The beneficiary charities were Severn Hospice and Make A Wish UK.

The task of getting all those singers to join together in concert in such a short time was accomplished very successfully by the Musical Director, Robyn Davies, and it was apparent that the large audience thoroughly enjoyed the evening. As well as hearing a varied programme of fine male voice choir singing, those present were treated to superb performances by three outstanding young local musicians: Holly Isherwood (clarinet), Amelia Gilmour (solo vocal) and Lauren Zhang (piano).

Next year’s concert will be held in the fine setting of Worcester Cathedral, and in recognition of that five of the songs performed by the choir were conducted by Nicholas Wright, MD of Worcester Male Voice Choir.

Our next concert will be on Friday 31 July 2015, when our choir will perform at St Matthew’s Church, Donnington Wood, Telford. We look forward to seeing you there. Tickets cost £5.00 including refreshments.
