John Thurman Memorial Concert 15 April 2015

On 15 April 2015 at Christ Church in Little Drayton, Shropshire, our choir had the pleasure of performing a concert in memory of John Thurman.

John was a member of Newport & District (Salop) Male Voice Choir for many years – a real stalwart. Not only was he an accomplished musician and singer, but he was also a very popular gent as well. He was a member of the congregation at Christ Church, where he regularly played the church organ. His popularity and accomplishment was readily apparent from the reminiscences about John that were contributed by members of our choir, and the parish priest – Fr Hywel Snook.

The choir was in good voice, and repeated the mixed programme that we had performed at our previous concert, encompassing traditional male voice choir repertoire, spirituals, and pop songs. We derived great pleasure from performing in memory of our late friend, and it was apparent from the audience reaction that they very much enjoyed our performance.

Our engagements are coming thick and fast at the moment, and our next performance will be on 25th April at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. We shall be performing with five other male voice choirs as a massed choir in the Birmingham St George’s Day Association’s annual St George’s Day concert. This is a variety show in aid of MacMillan Cancer Nurses, and you can find out more about it by looking at our events page.
