Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir visit to Llangollen Eistedfodd 11 July 2015

On Saturday 11 July members of Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir boarded a coach for a day trip to the world famous  Llangollen Eisteddfod. We are fortunate insofar as the beautiful Welsh town of Llangollen is only about 50 miles from our home town, so we arrived at our destination after a journey of only about 75 minutes. The prime reason for our  visit was to watch the Male Voice Choirs competition, but as our tickets were valid for the whole day we were able to see a number of other competitions, ranging from mixed choirs and barber shop singing to folk dancing.

Fortunately, the weather behaved itself – well, at least it didn’t rain – and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable day. It was very interesting not only to see the performances of the competitors, but also to hear the comments of the adjudicators, and the detailed analysis of the performances that they delivered.

For the record the Male Voice Choir competition was won by Cor Meibion Rhosllanerchrugog, from North Wales, but in truth there were no losers, as all the competitors performed very well, and received high marks.

All in all a super day, and many thanks to our hard working Ladies Committee for organising it.
