Autumn Concert with a 60s Twist

Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir’s  annual Autumn Concert took place last Saturday at Cosy Hall, Newport TF10. Given that this year the date of this concert was a month earlier than usual, and on a Saturday  rather than our usual Friday evening slot, it was very pleasing to see such a good audience turn out to support us. The choir was a little depleted in numbers, due to members’ holiday commitments, but the 25 or so singers who performed rose to the occasion, and the audience went away having enjoyed a great evening’s entertainment.

This year’s concert had a distinct 1960s theme running through it, the programme including a number of favourites from that decade, including Bridge Over Troubled Water, House of the Rising Sun, How do you Do It?, and Da Do Ron Ron. Choir members  David Barnett, David Tooth, and David Knowles gave very accomplished solo performances.

As ever, the choir members were indebted to our Musical Director, Viv Redfern, and accompanist Michael Ward, who was ably assisted by Jo Ward. We should also thank the hard working ladies who laid on the refreshments during the interval.

Our next concert is at the Millennium Community Centre, Moreton,  TF10 9DS on Saturday 15 October at 7.30 pm, just a few miles from our home town of Newport, across the county border in Staffordshire. We hope that as many people as possible will turn out to support this event.
