Welsh Night Concert, 2017

Last Friday, 3 March, we held our annual Welsh Night concert in Cosy Hall, Newport, TF10.

Welsh Night is a celebration of St David’s Day, and is always a popular event in the town, as was proved by the fact that around 90 people made up  our audience, even though the weather outside was very wet and unpleasant. Our thanks go to all the people who came.

The Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir gave a spirited performance of a wide ranging programme, which mixed traditional Welsh favourites with other items in our repertoire. Thus we sang hymns including – Llanfair, Morte Christe, and Deus Salutis and other Welsh songs, such as Eli Jenkins’ Prayer, but still had room for favourites such as Bridge Over Troubled Water. The concert concluded with hearty renditions by choir and audience of We’ll Keep a Welcome, Cwm Rhondda, and the Welsh National Anthem.

Our comperes were Glyn Thomas and David Tooth, who went about their work with great humour, and the choir was kept on song by our excellent musical team – musical director Viv Redfern and accompanist Mike Ward, ably assisted by Jo Ward.

Our next concert will take place on Friday 28 April 2017, when we perform with the church choir at Trinity Church, Wellington Road, Newport, TF10.
