A Brief History of our Choir

Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir was founded in the dark days of 1943 by William Wilde, the Organist and Choirmaster at St Nicholas Parish Church, Newport in the rural county of Shropshire, which lies close to the borders of mid- Wales and some 40 miles north west of Birmingham.

For many years our choir used to participate in competitions, an enjoyed much competitive success. Our greatest competitive achievement was coming second at the highly prestigious Llangollen International Festival in 1954.

The Choir now concentrates on concert performances, and in a normal year gives several charity concerts in local churches and halls. Many thousands of pounds have been raised for worthy causes.

The Choir usually has approximately 40 members, with a professional Director of Music and Accompanist.
