Birmingham St George’s Day Association Annual Concert 19 April 2014

Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir was delighted to perform at Symphony Hall in Birmingham, in The Birmingham St George’s Day Association’s annual St George’s Day Concert, which was  billed as “an evening of entertainment in support of Troop Aid and Birmingham Schools”.

This prestigious venue was almost filled to capacity as we joined with four other West Midlands male voice choirs to form a massed choir for the occasion, conducted by David Wynne and singing wide range of pieces that included the Emrys Jones hymn Morte Christe, Gounod’s Easter Hymn, and Lennon & McCartney’s Yesterday. Also appearing were a variety of entertainers, including comedians Don McLean and Malcolm Stent, soprano Elizabeth Ryder, folk rock group Quill, the Birmingham Community Gospel Choir, and the choir of Twickenham Primary School, Birmingham.

The concert concluded with the performers and audience joining together to sing patriotic songs, evoking a “last night of the proms” atmosphere, and it was evident from all the joyous flag waving and singing that a very good time was had by all.
