Music lovers are being urged to make a date in their diaries to hear a top town choir perform at a fundraising event in aid of the Advertiser’s charity appeal.

Newport and District Male Voice Choir will raise the roof at Cosy Hall, in Water Lane, with a special performance on Saturday, September 19.

The ‘Cosy Night of Song’ will raise funds for Newport Cottage Care Centre’s Art and Craft Room Appeal.

The appeal, which aims to raise £100,000 for an extension to the care centre in Upper Bar, is being backed by the Newport Advertiser.

The choir’s concert begins at 7.30 pm and tickets are £6. It will also feature the Wantage Male Voice Choir from Oxfordshire.

The connection came about after the choir was invited to sing at a memorial fundraising concert held after the sad death of a relative of the Newport choir’s musical accompanist. Jo Ward.

Ian Dunning, Newport Male Voice Choir’s publicity representative, said: “The choir, a registered charity, and our friends from Wantage, are delighted to support this very worthwhile appeal within the town.”

Concert-goers are promised a programme of show-stopping songs, popular and spiritual numbers during the two hour event, conducted by the choir’s musical director Vivian Redfern.

Refreshments, included in the ticket price, will be served during the interval and a raffle will also be held during the course of the evening.
