The Joy of Singing

Do you seek a challenge and a feeling of achievement in a musical environment which is friendly and inclusive? If so, why not give the Newport and District Male Voice Choir a go?

Meeting on Mondays 7.30 pm at Trinity Church, Wellington Road, Newport, the choir sings arrangements which are modern – and not so modern – including pop songs and popular numbers from musicals such as Les Miserables.

Do you need to be able to sing? We are looking for male singers who can hold a note and sing along with the choir: We do not seek soloists but a singer who can blend in to give that lovely choral sound. Help is given to establish your vocal level eg tenor, baritone or bass, before you are placed in to the choir, where you will be fully supported by a mentor.

Ian Dunning, who joined the choir nearly two years ago and had never sung in a choir before said “I have always sung around the house and was encouraged to join the choir by my wife, and I have not looked back since. I love the camaraderie and friendship, and the sense of achievement when performing is fantastic.”

Over the years the choir has become one of the major choirs in the Midlands with an active concert programme. In previous years the choir has travelled across Europe and the USA. So as you can see, this is not just a choir but a group of people who enjoy singing and entertaining others in a great atmosphere of friendship and fun.
